Yemenwed’s performance piece "No Image" is an abstract examination of contemporary serialized crime drama and the American suburban landscape. The piece looks at a series of templates: the American legal system as portrayed on television, the suburban chain restaurant, and the dramatic television episode format. Through movement and dialogue, we explore how humans correspond to, and fit within, these varying and layered templates.
As a member of Yemenwed I contributed to the overall concept as well as a specific focus on the creation of the "Commercial Breaks" and the usage of video projection, lighting design and documentation.
The piece was commissioned by curator Courtney Malick and performed at The Olin Theater at Bard College. Elements of the stage set and props were then displayed at the exhibition "(Re)Move/(Re)Frame" at the Hessel Museum of Art - Center for Curatorial Studies.
