Jonathan Turner is a Brooklyn-based artist working primarily in interactive media, video and animation for immersive digital experiences, performance, and installation. Through these mediums, Turner has been exploring and questioning the role of memory and perception in the face of an increasingly technology-infuenced social and natural world. This inquiry has been expanded upon through an ongoing series of published virtual envrionment projects, exploring themes of the psychology of space, subliminal perception, digial residue, and the mechanics of a player audience.
Through his solo practice and collaborations, Turner’s work has been performed and exhibited at The Kitchen, New York; Perez Art Museum, Miami; Tate Modern, London; MoMA, New York; MoMA P.S.1, New York; MOCA, Los Angeles; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; and Hirshhorn Museum, Washington D.C. He is a founding member of the art collective Yemenwed. He is also an adjunct professor at the NYU: Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) teaching his virtual reality-focused course Synthetic Architectures.
